Dyslexia assessment and specialist tuition in Haslemere. Support for children and young people aged 8–18, including full diagnostic assessments and tailored learning support.
This is a full diagnostic assessment for children and young people aged 8-18. It includes pre-assessment questionnaires and/or interviews with parents and teachers, the analysis of background information and the administration of standardised assessments required to diagnose dyslexia.
A diagnosis of dyslexia is life-long; the report can be used if applying for DSA (Disabled Students’ Allowance) for further education, and referred to at any time in the future.
The Delphi Definition of Dyslexia emphasises the need for quality instruction before embarking on assessment. Tuition can be of benefit to learners too young for a formal dyslexia diagnostic assessment, as well as older learners who require targeted support.
I offer support in literacy to pupils from KS1 to KS3. I take a collaborative approach, working with the learner, subject teachers, parents and outside agencies, to ensure that teaching is effective. Lessons are multisensory and structured, with scaffolding to encourage independent and reflective learning. The first session is usually an assessment session, covering reading, writing and spelling skills, as well as some aspects of cognitive processing, e.g,. phonological awareness. This is to ensure that intervention is tailored and effective.
Tutoring takes place at the learner’s home or my home in Haslemere. Holiday packages are also available, with focus given to a particular area, e.g., vocabulary, spelling, or the writing process. If you have any questions on what I might be able to offer your child or young person, please do get in touch.
